Ever dreamed of escaping the hustle, the noise, and the “tech bro” energy for a peaceful, empowering place just for women?
Kristina Roth did more than dream it she made it real. She founded SuperShe Island, an exclusive, female-only paradise off the coast of Finland, where the only rule is: No men allowed.
๐ผ From Startup Struggles to Island Dreams
Kristina Rothโs journey to island ownership is far from typical.
Originally from Germany, she moved to New York with two suitcases and no connections, eventually launching a tech consulting firm, Matisia Consultants. Starting with just a laptop and brainpower, Roth built the business into a $65 million-a-year company โ without outside investors.
But success didnโt shield her from sexism.
โIโm a computer scientist. I worked only with men,โ she says. โHow many times did I hear, โHey blondie, what are you doing here?โโ
Even as CEO, she recalls one meeting where a client assumed an older man in her group was the boss. That moment stuck with her.
๐ Building a New Kind of Womenโs Network

After selling her company, Roth traveled the world and began meeting other powerful, driven women and realized something was missing from traditional networking spaces.
โI went to a lot of womenโs networking events, and I was bored out of my mind,โ she admits. โIt was too formal. I wanted something more real.โ
Thatโs when SuperShe was born first as a community and lifestyle brand, then as a series of women-only retreats in luxury locations like Hawaii, Necker Island, and Turks & Caicos.
Rothโs concept was simple: Let women connect in meaningful, fun ways the same way men do at golf clubs or cigar lounges.
๐ฟ Introducing SuperShe Island

When Hurricane Irma disrupted plans for a retreat in the Caribbean, fate intervened. Roth heard about a remote island in the Baltic Sea, off the coast of Finland through her boyfriend, ironically.
She bought it.
โIt had no electricity, no water, no roads. But I knew I had to make it happen,โ she says.
She transformed the 8.4-acre island into a luxurious, women-only getaway with:
- Four beautifully designed cabins
- A Finnish sauna and spa amenities
- Farm-to-table meals
- Yoga, meditation, fitness classes, cooking workshops, and nature adventures
โItโs really a little utopia,โ Roth says. โThere are blueberry fields in the middle. In the summer, itโs justโฆ blueberry fields forever.โ
๐ How to Get In
You canโt just book a room and show up.
To join a SuperShe Island retreat, women must apply including a video interview. Roth personally reviews each application, looking for interesting stories and good energy.
โWeโve had 3,000 to 4,000 applications already from the U.S., India, France, and beyond,โ she says. โI get stuck reading them. Some are so powerful.โ
One woman who escaped North Korea applied. Another, a painter still living in war-torn Syria, dreamed of visiting.
โThese women live in danger but long for the same peace and connection we all do,โ Roth says.
๐ธ Yes, Itโs Expensive But Roth Defends It

A week on SuperShe Island will likely cost $5,000 to $6,000 sparking criticism that the retreat is elitist and exclusionary.
Roth pushes back, saying the cost reflects the all-inclusive experience:
โYouโre picked up from the airport, taken to a private island, get massages, meals, daily activitiesโฆ Itโs worth it.โ
She also says the broader SuperShe community welcomes all women, and sheโs planning lower-cost programs and day retreats for locals and travelers through Europe. Plus, sheโs open to offering scholarships to those who canโt afford the full experience.
๐ More Than a Vacation Itโs About Independence

Roth says the heart of SuperShe is about something deeper:
โItโs about striving to be an independent woman emotionally, financially, in every way. Thatโs the only time you can make decisions for your life.โ
And itโs not about shutting men out itโs about giving women space to connect, grow, and support each other.
โI like you, you like me, guess what? We help each other.โ
๐ฉโ๐ค A New Kind of Sisterhood
Today, SuperShe is a global womenโs community with over 3,000 members. Its pink-hued Instagram calls it a โnot-so-secret societyโ for women who love wellness, empowerment, and living life to the fullest.
Whether you’re seeking transformation, sisterhood, or just a blueberry-filled escape from the everyday grind, SuperShe Island might just be the real-life fairytale youโve been dreaming of.
